Round I: Sigrun Hallsdottir. The cloak is three ells across.

Sigrun drives her shoulder into a patched round shield, black sand kicking up from her back heel

The first law

Step off the cloak and you lose. There is no count.

Sigrun says nothing before a duel. She sets her shield and walks you backward until the wool runs out.

hólmganga: going to the islet. The old word for a duel fought on a cloak.

Round II: Old Ormr. Folded once, two and a half ells.

Old Ormr, one arm gone, grins mid-word with a long seax low in his left hand

The second law

Blood spilled off the cloak is a debt. The one who spilled it owes.

Seventy winters and one arm.
Every man who laughed at the arm
is under the sand now.

Old Ormr tells you the joke first. The seax comes at the end of it.

Round III: Eydis. Folded twice, two ells.

Eydis twists low on one hand after a dodge, a cloth over her right eye, a bone knife raised

The third law

The dead may call a duel. No one refuses a draugr.

Eydis sees the dead through her right eye. She ties a cloth over it so they cannot see her looking back, and fights from a crouch that never stays put.

draugr: one of the dead who walks back up the beach to finish a quarrel.

Round IV: Bjarke Thorsen against Sigrun. One and a half ells.

Bjarke's two-handed axe bites the rim of Sigrun's shield, splinters and black sand bursting between them

The fourth law

A shield takes three blows. The fourth goes through.

Bjarke has not slept since the hall burned. He hits until the wood gives, and then he goes quiet.

drengr: a fighter who stands by what was said on the sand.

Bjarke seen from below, axe lifted over his shoulder at the top of a swing

Round V. One ell of wool left.

Hold the Cloak

Bjarke swings from the edges of the cloak. Keep your feet on the wool and parry as the axe lands. A dashed mark is a shove: you cannot parry it, so step back in after. Hold three folds and the cloak gives you an oath.

Arrow keys or A and D to step. Space or J to parry. Esc to pause. Auto parry leaves you one button: Step to centre.

The cloak is laid. Press Take the Cloak when you are ready.

Ten Stakes

Ten fighters, one stake each. Eight still breathe. Two walked back out of the sea to finish something. Choose a stake and it comes up out of the sand.

Sigrun HallsdottirShield first. Her left braid burned in the hall fire, and she never cut the right one to match.

Six Shores

Wherever the cloak is laid, the field is marked the same way: hasla völl, to mark the field with hazel.

Where the holmgang began. The tide takes the footprints between rounds and leaves the stakes.

Word from the Shore

A boat plank washed up on the black sand. Someone cut the news into it with a knife.

Open beta

11 to 14 December 2026. Eight fighters, all six shores, ranked duels from the second day.

Ketil comes later

Draugr Ketil joins on the third day of the beta. Hazel Ring said he was not ready. He disagreed.

Every verse recorded

Old Ormr's lines are in, all of them. He asked to record more. The answer was no.

Ormr reads it out loud. He adds a line that is not there.

Privacy

Hazel Ring Studio and Blackstrand Entertainment. Last updated 25 October 2026.

Who we are

Hazel Ring Studio makes CLOAKFALL and Blackstrand Entertainment publishes it. Together we are the controllers of the personal data described here. Write to [email protected] with any question.

What we collect

When you swear in for the open beta we keep your email address, the platform you chose and the oath you picked. When you play the beta we collect your platform account name, match results, crash reports and basic device details such as hardware model and system language.

Why we collect it

To send your beta key, to run matchmaking and ranked duels, to fix crashes, and to balance fighters using anonymous match statistics. We do not pass your data to advertisers or data brokers, and we build no advertising profiles.

Legal basis

Under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation we rely on your consent for beta emails, on our contract with you to run the beta, and on our legitimate interest in keeping the game stable and fair.

How long we keep it

We delete sign-up data 90 days after the open beta ends, unless you ask to hear about launch. We anonymise beta match data within 12 months and keep crash reports for 6 months.

Who we share it with

Our hosting, email and crash-reporting providers process data for us under written agreements. Platform holders receive what their own services need to run the game on their hardware. Standard contractual clauses protect any data that leaves the EU or UK.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, delete or export your data, object to processing, or withdraw consent at any time by using the link in any beta email or by writing to us. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes

If this notice changes in a way that matters, we will email everyone on the beta list before the change applies.

Terms

Open beta terms for CLOAKFALL. Last updated 25 October 2026.

The agreement

These terms are between you and Hazel Ring Studio. By joining the open beta you accept them, along with the EULA and the privacy notice on this site.

Who can join

You must be at least 16, or the age of digital consent where you live if that is higher, and hold an account in good standing on the platform you choose.

Your key and account

Beta keys are personal. Do not share, trade or publish them. You are responsible for what happens on your account during the beta.

Conduct on the cloak

Fight hard and talk fair. No cheating, no exploiting bugs on purpose, no harassment, hate speech or threats in names, chat or voice. We may mute, suspend or remove players who break this.

Beta builds

The beta is unfinished. Fighters, shores and rules will change. We may reset progress, rank and unlocked oaths at any time, and none of it carries over to launch.

What you make

You can share clips and screenshots of the beta. Please do not present them as the finished game. Feedback you send us may be used to improve CLOAKFALL without further permission.

Ending access

The open beta runs from 11 to 14 December 2026. We may end it early, extend it, or remove access for anyone who breaks these terms.

Law and changes

These terms follow the law of the country where you live where that law requires it, and otherwise the law of Norway. We will tell beta players about any change before it applies.

EULA

End user licence agreement for the CLOAKFALL open beta build. Last updated 25 October 2026.

Licence

Hazel Ring Studio grants you a personal, limited, non-transferable and revocable licence to install and play the open beta build on hardware you own or control, for the length of the beta.

What you may not do

Ownership

The game, its code, art, music, fighters, names and logos belong to Hazel Ring Studio and its licensors. The licence gives you no ownership in any of them.

Feedback

If you report bugs or ideas, you allow us to use them in CLOAKFALL and future games without owing you anything for it.

Online services and updates

The beta needs an internet connection. It may download updates on its own, and some features may stop working when the beta ends.

Anti-cheat

The build includes anti-cheat software that checks for known cheat tools while the game runs. It does not read your personal files.

Termination

This licence ends when the beta ends, when you uninstall the build, or when you break this agreement. When it ends, delete the build.

Warranty and liability

We provide the beta as it is, without warranties, as far as the law allows. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law where you live.

Help

Answers for the CLOAKFALL open beta. Last updated 25 October 2026.

Joining the open beta

Swear in on this page with your email and platform. Keys go out in waves before 11 December 2026. Check your spam folder if nothing arrives by 10 December.

Using your key

Enter the key in your platform's code redemption screen. The beta then appears in your library, ready to download about 18 GB.

PC requirements

Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), a quad-core processor from the last six years, 16 GB of memory, a graphics card with 6 GB of video memory, and 25 GB of storage on an SSD.

Controls and accessibility

You can remap every action. The beta has a one-button parry mode, subtitles for every line, a high-contrast cloak edge, screen shake off, and colour filters for the edge warning.

Known issues

The Burned Hall can drop frames on older PCs when smoke is dense. Draugr Ketil's voice lines are missing until day three. We are fixing both.

Reporting a player

Open the result screen after a duel and choose Report. Add what happened and the round. A person reads every report.

Contact

Write to [email protected] with your platform, account name and a short description. We answer in English, German, Norwegian and Indonesian within two working days during the beta.
